FAQ
What's included in the box?
SDR-5616 receiver, UTX16 rechargeable beltpack transmitter, EMic headset with T4 MultiMic connector, DC power supply, and audio cable.
Can I use rechargeable batteries?
Yes - that's the main upgrade. Use NiMH rechargeable AAs and switch the battery type to NiMH in the transmitter's menu. The UTX16 also supports the HC24 charging dock — drop the transmitter in between classes and it charges without removing the batteries.
Will this work with my existing U-Series receiver?
Yes. The UTX16 works with the same SDR-5616 receiver that's been in U-Series systems for years. If you already have a receiver, you can buy the UTX16 transmitter standalone as an upgrade.
What's the button lock?
A menu setting that disables the SET button so nobody can accidentally change the channel or frequency during class. Enable it once your channel is set and forget about it.
Which frequency do I choose?
Select the frequency that matches your facility. If you're setting up a new system, choose any available option — 520, 536, 540, 560, or 580 MHz. If you're adding to an existing U-Series setup, match the frequency band printed on your current receiver or transmitter. Not sure? Contact us and we'll help.
Do I need the charging dock?
Not required. The UTX16 works with standard alkaline AAs out of the box. The HC24 dock is a convenience upgrade for studios that want to recharge between classes without swapping batteries. Sold separately.
Can I still use alkaline batteries?
Yes. Switch the battery type to AKLN in the menu. The UTX16 supports both alkaline and NiMH rechargeable — your choice.
Does it have an external antenna?
No. Same internal antenna design as the SM716. No antenna wire to corrode, bend, or crackle.
Can I upgrade my SM716 to a UTX16 without replacing the receiver?
Yes. The UTX16 pairs with the same SDR-5616 receiver. Buy the UTX16 transmitter standalone, set it to the same channel as your receiver, and you're running.
What's the dual gain control?
Two separate gain knobs. GT (left) controls high-impedance input level — for instruments like guitars. MT (right) controls low-impedance input — for headset and lapel mics. For fitness use, MT is the one you'll set. Having separate controls means you don't have to compromise if you ever use the transmitter with a different input type.
